Recap: Chattanooga vs. Maine

Chattanooga, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Ronrico White and Casey Jones each scored 20 points to lead the Chattanooga Mocs to a 86-80 victory over the Maine Black Bears in the title game of the Dr. Pepper Classic at McKenzie Arena.

The Mocs (6-8) also finished with a pair of double-double performances, as Gee McGhee tallied 17 points and 10 assists and Z. Mason added 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Dimitry Coronel led the Black Bears (2-10) with 24 points, while Kilian Cato finished with 12 points and Christian Ejiga, Shaun Lawton and Troy Reid-Knight each chipped in with 10.

Shooting 51.6 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-9 from 3-point distance, the Black Bears took a 43-39 lead into the break. Chattanooga shot 45.2 percent in the opening period, including 6-of-17 from beyond the arc.

After intermission, Maine cooled off a bit, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 4-of-13 from 3-point range. The Mocs found their shooting touch in the second, knocking down 58.6 percent of their field goal tries, including 5- of-8 from long distance. Trailing by one, 69-68, with just over six minutes to play, White knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers as part of a 6-0 run to put the Mocs up for good. The Black Bears were able to make it a one-possession game several times down the stretch, but 3-pointers by White and Mason in the final minutes secured the victory for the Mocs and gave them the title in their home tournament.

Chattanooga had a 41-36 rebounding edge for the game, although Maine outscored the Mocs in the paint, 40-34.
