Recap: Iona vs. Rider

Springfield, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tre Bowman led all scorers with 28 points, as the top-seeded Iona Gaels dismissed the No. 8 seed Rider Broncs, 94-71, in the quarterfinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the MassMutual Center.

With the win, Iona advances to face fourth-seeded Canisius in Sunday's semifinal round.

Sean Armand chipped in with 20 points, as he and Bowman combined to go 9-of-18 from beyond the arc. David Laury recorded a double-double off the bench with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the defending MAAC tournament champion Gaels (21-9), winners of 13 of their last 14 games overall. Isaiah Williams also reached double figures with 12 points.

Anthony Myles led the way with 19 points for the Broncs (14-17), who were coming off Thursday's win over Monmouth in the first round of the tournament. Jimmie Taylor and Daniel Stewart rounded out the double-figure scorers with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Rider never led in this contest, as the Gaels shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the first half and sprinted out to a 50-34 halftime lead. They knocked down 6-of-12 3-pointers in the opening frame and also took care of business at the foul line, converting 14-of-16 attempts.

The Gaels never let their foot off the gas in the second stanza as they shot an even better 64 percent from the field and tacked on five more treys to win handily.

In addition to their hot shooting, the Gaels committed only eight turnovers for the game.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
