Recap: Colgate vs. Navy

Hamilton, NY ( - Damon Sherman-Newsome scored 16 points to help Colgate take a 57-51 victory over Navy in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.

Ethan Jacobs gave 10 points and nine rebounds, and Luke Roh added 10 points and five boards for Colgate (13-17), who will play second-seeded American on Wednesday.

Brandon Venturini scored 26 points with five rebounds, and Worth Smith donated 10 points and nine boards for the Midshipmen (9-21), who dropped their final five games of the season.

Holding a three-point lead, the Raiders created some distance with 10 straight points as Sherman-Newsome capped the surge with a jumper for a 39-26 advantage with 13 1/2 minutes to play.

Navy cut the score to two on a Venturini jumper with 13 seconds to play, but Sherman-Newsome then hit his two free throws, and Venturini missed a 3 at the other end before Austin Tillotson sealed the win with a pair of free throws.

Colgate scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 27-21 advantage into the locker room.
