Asheville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Williams poured in 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Samford to a 70-56 victory over Appalachian State in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Michael Bradley added 14 points and Connor Miller chipped in 11 for Samford (13-19), which advanced to face top-seeded Davidson in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Appalachian State led by five early, but went into the break down 29-25 and tied the game early in the second half at 31-31. The Bulldogs followed with an 11-2 run, highlighted by a Miller triple, and led for the remainder of the contest.

The Mountaineers clawed within 57-51 on a Hamilton layup with just over five minutes to play, but the Bulldogs answered with the next six points -- including four from Williams -- to again pull away.
