Recap: Louisiana vs. Texas-Arlington

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Xavian Rimmer scored 24 points to help lead his Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a 91-85 quarterfinals victory in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament over the Texas-Arlington Mavericks at the New Orleans Lakefront Arena.

Bryant Mbamalu netted 20 points with eight rebounds, and Shawn Long tallied a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds with five blocked shots for third-seeded Louisiana (21-11), which will advance to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals to take on second-seeded Western Kentucky Saturday.

Jamel Outler led all scorers in the contest with 26 points for UT Arlington (15-17). Reger Dowell contributed 25 points in the loss with six assists, and Brandon Edwards added 22 points with a team-high 11 rebounds for the double- double.

Both teams came out shooting extremely well in the first half. Louisiana netted 54.8 percent of its shot attempts in the frame, including 8-of-14 from 3-point range, to take a 46-41 lead into the intermission. UT Arlington hit 52 percent of its field goal tries, including 5-of-11 from deep.

The Cajuns dipped down to 39.4 percent shooting in the second half, but went 15-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Mavericks fell to 41.2 percent shooting in the period, hitting 6-of-11 from deep, but made five fewer free throws than Louisiana, hitting 10-of-12 from the line. UT Arlington fell behind by an additional point in the half en route to the defeat.

Louisiana had a 10-4 advantage in second chance points, and outrebounded UT Arlington in the contest, 43-34. The Mavericks won the battle in bench scoring 35-15.
