Recap: Chattanooga vs. Western Carolina

Chattanooga, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Z. Mason poured in 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Chattanooga Mocs defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 83-73, in Southern Conference play at McKenzie Arena.

Gee McGhee tallied a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds for Chattanooga (16-11, 10-2 SoCon). Casey Jones scored 14 points, Ronrico White added 11 and Martynas Bareika chipped in 10 in the victory. The Mocs ended a two-game losing skid with the win.

Brandon Boggs scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor for Western Carolina (14-12, 7-4). James Sinclair netted 15 points with six rebounds, and Trey Sumler contributed 12 in the losing effort. The Catamounts ended a two- game win streak with the defeat.

Chattanooga hit 42.9 percent of its shot attempts in the first half en route to a 42-38 lead at the break. Western Carolina connected on 40.6 percent of its shots in the frame. Each team hit 10 free throws and two 3-pointers.

The Mocs maintained a steady pace in the second half, netting 42.3 percent of their field goal tries and went 15-of-19 from the charity stripe. The Catamounts dipped to 36.1 percent shooting in the period, and hit just 2-of-14 from 3-point range.

Chattanooga had the edge in rebounding, 49-38, and in bench points, 25-13. Western Carolina won the battle in points off turnovers, 13-9.
