Recap: St Johns vs. Robert Morris

Queens, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Karvel Anderson scored a career-high 38 points as the Robert Morris Colonials upset the St. John's Red Storm, 89-78, in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at Carnesecca Arena.

Anderson finished the night shooting a stellar 9-of-15 behind the 3-point line, the team hitting on 16-of-32 on the perimeter collectively. Lucky Jones tallied 25 points and nine boards, while Anthony Myers-Pate had 11 points and eight assists for the eighth-seeded Colonials (22-13), who will play Belmont in the next round after the Bruins defeated Green Bay, 80-65.

Jamal Branch finished with 22 points, followed by Max Hooper who chipped in 18 on 6-of-12 shooting beyond the arc off the bench for the Red Storm (20-13). Before fouling out JaKarr Sampson added 11 points, while Orlando Sanchez posted eight points and eight rebounds in a reserve role.

Robert Morris drained 58.6 percent of its shots from the floor, including 9- of-15 from 3-point range, in the first half as it led 49-27 at the break. St. John's made just 30 percent of its field goal attempts, converting nine baskets, eight of which were from beyond the arc.

The Colonials came out of the break and struggled as they shot 37 percent from the field in the second period. Despite the poor shooting, RMU cruised as it led the entire half with the Red Storm never cutting the lead to less than seven points.

Robert Morris outscored the Red Storm at the free-throw line, 19-4.
