Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Butler has replaced Brad Stevens with assistant Brandon Miller.

Stevens was introduced as the Boston Celtics' coach on Friday. On Saturday, Butler promoted Miller, a 2003 graduate and former Bulldogs point guard, to head coach.

Miller spent last season as a special assistant under Illinois head coach John Groce. He rejoined the Butler staff in April as an assistant coach under Stevens.

Prior to his one season at Illinois, Miller spent six years on the staff of head coach Thad Matta at Ohio State. He served three years as an assistant coach, two seasons as director of basketball operations and one year as video coordinator. He last worked at Butler during the 2007-08 season.

Miller played three seasons with Butler and led the team in scoring in 2002-03, when the Bulldogs reached the Sweet 16. He went 77-20 during his playing career, winning three Horizon League titles and becoming one of eight players in program history to score 1,000 points in three seasons.

"I am confident that Brandon will carry on the Butler University basketball tradition of excellence, especially as we make the transition to the Big East Athletic Conference," Butler vice president and director of athletics Barry Collier said. "As a player, assistant coach, and person, Brandon has exemplified the Butler Way and brings a blend of energy, talent and integrity to this role. With Brandon's leadership, Butler is well positioned to expand upon the success of the last few years."
