Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - The University of Central Florida on Friday extended the contract of head men's basketball coach Donnie Jones through the 2017-18 season.

Jones is coming off a 20-11 season, just the second time since the program was elevated to Division I in 1984 that it has reached that milestone for victories in three straight campaigns.

"Donnie has done a remarkable job in building the program. We are very excited about the future of the men's basketball program and Donnie is a huge part of that future," UCF director of athletics Todd Stansbury said. "Going into the new conference, having his leadership is crucial to our future success."

The 47-year-old West Virginia native was hired from Marshall in 2010, and has posted a 42-34 record with a 19-23 conference mark since then.

The Knights were postseason ineligible in 2012-13, and eventually saw all of its wins from Jones' first season at the helm vacated due to use of an ineligible player.

"I appreciate the commitment to our program and support from Todd Stansbury and President (John C.) Hitt," Jones said. "This is an incredible time to be part of the UCF family, and my family is thrilled to be a part of this wonderful university. We have made great progress and will continue to work tirelessly to make the program one of the best in the country."

Central Florida is moving from Conference USA to the newly-christened American Athletic Conference for the upcoming season.
