Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Georgia Tech sophomore quarterback Vad Lee will transfer to another school, head coach Paul Johnson confirmed on Friday.

"Vad is a young man with high character and I appreciate all the work that he put into our program and to Georgia Tech during his three years here," said Johnson. "This is a decision made by Vad and his family, and while you don't like losing talented players, I wish nothing but the best for Vad in the future."

Lee started all 13 games in 2013, helping the Yellow Jackets to a 7-6 overall record, a 5-3 mark in the ACC and a 17th consecutive bowl game appearance, where they lost to Ole Miss, 25-17, in the Music City Bowl.

"Making the decision to leave Georgia Tech was difficult for me," said Lee. "I am very close -- and will continue to be close -- with my teammates. I will also miss the overwhelming support I received the last three years from Yellow Jacket nation."

Lee completed 45.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,561 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year, adding 513 yards and eight TDs on the ground.

"My decision was also difficult because I know first-hand the talent coming back next season," Lee added. "I just felt that it is a good time for me to get a fresh start for my final two years of college."

A North Carolina native, Lee red-shirted the 2011 season, then served as the primary back-up to starter Tevin Washington in 2012.
