Recap: Air Force vs. New Mexico

USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - Wes Cobb scored three touchdowns as the Air Force Falcons overcame a 10-0 first quarter deficit en route to a 28-23 victory over the New Mexico Lobos in Mountain West Conference action at Falcon Stadium.

Cobb finished with 82 yards rushing on a team-high 17 carries for Air Force (4-3, 3-1 MWC), Ty MacArthur led the Falcons with 94 yards and had four of a total five receptions by the Falcons for 61 yards. Connor Dietz added 58 yards rushing while completing all four of his pass attempts for 61 yards. The Falcons have won three of their last four.

Kasey Carrier pounded out 338 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries for New Mexico (4-4, 1-2). B.R. Holbrook completed 5-of-10 passes for only 29 yards and an interception.

The Lobos got on the board first when Justus Adams connected on a 20-yard field goal that gave New Mexico a 3-0 lead.

After forcing a three and out from the Falcons, New Mexico struck again this time on a one-yard touchdown run by Carrier. The score was set up by a 59- yard run by Carrier on the previous play.

Air Force cut into the early deficit with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Cobb at the six minute mark of the first quarter.

Alex Means returned a Holbrook interception 35 yards for a touchdown as Air Force claimed a 14-10 lead late in the first half.

New Mexico retook the lead in the third quarter on a one-yard rushing touchdown from Carrier.

The Falcons wouldn't trail for too long as Cobb scored from a yard out on Air Force's next drive giving it a 21-17 lead.

Cobb added another one-yard scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to push the Falcons' lead to 28-17.

New Mexico didn't go away though as Carrier scored on a 37-yard rushing touchdown a little less than three minutes later. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Lobos would drive the ball to the Air Force 12-yard line on their next possession but New Mexico failed to score after electing to go for it on fourth down.

Air Force regained possession and was able to run out the clock to secure the win.

New Mexico lost despite out gained Air Force by a 443-366 margin. There was a total of 109 passing yards between the two teams.
