Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Three Pittsburgh football players have been charged with simple assault and conspiracy, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Karl Olshenski told police he and two friends were walking down the street around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 21 when running back Raymond Graham, wide receiver Devin Street and defensive back Lafayette Pitts surrounded them before Street struck him in the left side of the head.

All three players have been charged by a summons through the mail after they were identified in a photo array and are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.

Graham is the Panthers' leading rusher with 622 yards and seven touchdowns on 134 carries, while Street is the team's leading receiver with 695 yards and four scores on 50 receptions. Pitts is Pittsburgh's primary kick returner.

"We take matters of player discipline very seriously and will continue to cooperate with any investigation," the school said in a statement. "However, we will not, and hope others will not, rush to judgment on these misdemeanor allegations. All three players will remain active members of our program while we gain more clarity on this situation."

The 4-4 Panthers will face off against 8-0 Notre Dame on Saturday.
