Recap: Troy vs. FIU

TROY, AL (Sports Network) - Will Scott made a game winning 42-yard field goal for the Troy Trojans to beat the FIU Panthers in a 38-37 Sun Belt Conference thriller at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.

With Corey Robinson sitting out with an injury, Troy (4-3, 3-2 Sun Belt) was paced by Deon Anthony, as he completed 29-of-41 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also had 115 yards rushing on 19 carries with two touchdowns. His favorite target Eric Thomas caught six passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

As for FIU (1-7, 0-4), quarterback Jake Medlock completed 18-of-29 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Medlock's favorite target Willis Wright caught six passes for 129 yards and one touchdown. Kedrick Rhodes had 83 yards rushing on 18 carries.

On FIU's first possession, Medlock connected with Glenn Coleman for a 33-yard touchdown strike to put the Panthers up 7-0.

Troy answered Anthony scored on a quarterback draw for 33 yards to tie up the game, 7-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, Richard Leonard had a big return for 68 yards and shortly after Darian Mallary punched it in for a one-yard touchdown to put the Panthers up, 14-7.

Panthers regained possession and Medlock threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Wright to add on to their lead.

Troy came right back and Anthony connected with Chip Reeves for a seven touchdown pass, which made the score 21-14.

Midway through the second quarter, FIU put together a 16-play drive and kicker Jack Griffin finished with a successful 21-yard field goal to put his squad up, 24-14.

FIU outgained Troy 247-185 in total yards in the opening half.

Medlock threw an interception to begin the third period.

Troy took advantage of the turnover when Anthony connected with Thomas for a 17-yard touchdown, but it still trailed 24-21.

The Panthers responded with a deep pass by Medlock to Nick England for 56 yards. Then, Medlock connected with Wayne Times for a three-yard touchdown to put them up, 31-21.

Anthony fumbled and it was recovered by FIU's Justin Halley, who returned it 62 yards across the goal line. The Panthers' lead stayed at 37-21 after the extra point was missed.

At the end of the third quarter, Anthony connected with Thomas for a 11-yard touchdown, which narrowed FIU's advantage.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Anthony ran 13 yards for a touchdown to shrink the Panthers' lead to just two points, 37-35.

Troy managed to march down the field to put Scott in position to make the game- winning field goal with just 11 seconds left.

A consistent game for both offenses, Troy had 432 total yards and FIU finished with 428.
