Recap: Miss State vs. Arkansas

Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Tyler Russell threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns, as the Mississippi State Bulldogs cruised to a 45-14 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in Southeastern Conference play at Davis Wade Stadium.

Chad Bumphis and LaDarius Perkins each caught two touchdown passes for the Bulldogs (8-3, 4-3 SEC), who snapped a three-game slide.

The Razorbacks (4-7, 2-5) trailed by only three points at halftime, but they let the game get out of hand in the second half and were eliminated from bowl contention. Tyler Wilson completed 23-of-29 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns, although he was also intercepted twice.

Mississippi State opened the contest with a 15-play, 75-yard drive, which culminated with Russell's 13-yard touchdown pass to Perkins.

Arkansas answered with an 11-play, 86-yard drive, capped by Wilson's 30-yard TD pass to Cobi Hamilton.

The Razorbacks took a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, as Wilson found Dennis Johnson for a seven-yard scoring strike.

However, the Bulldogs would respond with 38 unanswered points to turn a tight contest into a blowout. Devon Bell kicked a 39-yard field goal at the 9:38 mark of the second quarter, and Russell later hooked up with Bumphis for a six-yard touchdown pass and a 17-14 lead with just under five minutes to play in the half.

The score would remain that way until the 5:51 mark of the third quarter, when Dak Prescott's four-yard run gave Mississippi State a 24-14 advantage.

Perkins caught another touchdown pass later in the same frame, this time from 24 yards. Bumphis hauled in his second TD on a 22-yard pass from Russell in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 38-14. Two minutes later, Nick Griffin broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run to put a stamp on Mississippi State's victory.

With the victory, the Bulldogs ended a three-game losing streak against Arkansas as they outgained the Razorbacks, 505-359.
