Recap: So Carolina vs. Wofford

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Kenny Miles ran for a career-high 127 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries and No. 12 South Carolina used a 17-point fourth quarter to take care of Wofford, 24-7, Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Miles added four catches for 27 yards, while Connor Shaw threw for 122 yards with one touchdown and one interception on 16-of-20 passing for the Gamecocks (9-2), who went a perfect 7-0 at home this season for the first time since 1987.

Ace Sanders caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

"This game was about like every time we've played Wofford. It was very close and then something good happened for us in the fourth quarter," South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said. "Wofford is a good team, we knew that coming in and we knew it was going to be a close dog fight all the way through. We got some turnovers that gave us a little room to breathe at the end of the game"

Eric Breitenstein led the Wofford attack with 125 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, while James Lawson attempted only two passes -- one going for a 71- yard completion -- for the Terriers (8-3).

After both teams failed to put any points on the board in the third quarter, South Carolina finally put the game away with 17 points in the fourth to snap a 7-7 tie.

The Gamecocks took the lead for good with just a few ticks under 12 minutes on the clock, when Adam Yates capped an extensive 15-play, 68-yard drive with a chip-shot 23-yard field goal to make it a 10-7 game.

Wofford turned the ball over on downs on its next possession, and South Carolina needed just five plays to move down the field before Shaw hit Sanders in the end zone for an 8-yard strike and a 17-7 lead with 8:10 left.

Breitenstein then fumbled on the ensuing Terriers drive and the ball was scooped up by Akeem Auguste, who rumbled 31 yards to the end zone to ice the victory for South Carolina.

"Turnovers got us today," Wofford coach Mike Ayers said. "If we don't turn it over and take care of the ball then the other side may be a little sad. Loved the effort of the kids and the way that they conducted themselves and know that we really worked hard for this."

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Gamecocks struck first early in the second frame when Miles capped a lengthy 13-play, 51-yard march with a 2-yard plunge into the end zone, giving South Carolina a 7-0 lead.

Wofford fought back to tie the game at 7-7 on the final drive of the first half.

Breitenstein starred on the 12-play, 85-yard possession, rushing the ball seven times for 47 yards that included a 2-yard TD plunge with 32 seconds on the clock, giving the South Carolina defense something to think about heading into the third quarter.
