Recap: Kansas vs. TCU

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Brandon Carter caught a pair of touchdown passes from Casey Pachall, as the 16th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs claimed a 20-6 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks.

The Horned Frogs overcame four turnovers to win their Big 12 Conference debut.

"We are excited to get our first Big 12 victory," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "You can't get to two without one. Gotta give KU a lot of credit they came out and caused some turnovers and moved the football. We were fortunate to play good enough in the red zone."

Pachall completed 24-of-30 passes for 335 yards for TCU (2-0, 1-0 Big 12), which has won 10 consecutive games dating back to last season -- currently the longest active streak in the country.

Waymon James carried the ball 12 times for 99 yards for the Horned Frogs, who play Virginia next Saturday. Matthew Tucker rushed for 65 yards on 12 carries.

Dayne Crist connected on 19-of-39 passes for 303 yards and an interception for the Jayhawks (1-2, 0-1), who have lost two in a row since opening the season with a win over South Dakota State.

Andrew Turzilli hauled in three passes for 100 yards. Tony Pierson caught six passes for 99 yards and carried the ball nine times for 35 yards.

"It was a tough loss," Turzilli said. "We played hard until the end. We made a couple crucial errors in the red zone but we hung in there the entire game. The whole game was just back and forth."

Holding a 10-6 lead, the Horned Frogs created some distance with 10 points in the third quarter.

Following three punts to start the second half, TCU started a drive from its own 21-yard line. On 3rd-and-6, Pachall found Carter near the first down marker. Carter went 33 yards down the left sideline. The duo hooked up on another third down later in the drive. Carter caught a 25-yard pass along the right sideline and stretched the ball over the pylon for a score.

Jaden Oberkrom made a 27-yard field goal on the Horned Frogs' next possession, making it a 20-6 game with 21 seconds left.

Kansas turned the ball over on downs early in the fourth. TCU's defense held on for the victory after the offense turned the ball over twice in the red zone.

The first quarter featured a trio of turnovers. After the Horned Frogs fumbled on the opening possession, Kansas used numerous running plays to move the ball inside the 20-yard line. A sack on 3rd-and-8 forced the Jayhawks to settle for a 37-yard Ron Doherty field goal.

TCU lost the ball again on its next offensive series. This time around, Pachall fumbled while being sacked.

But the Horned Frogs got the ball right back when Sam Carter picked off Crist. James' 31-yard run put the ball inside the 10-yard line. Pachall ended the four-play drive with an eight-yard pass to Carter in the middle of the end zone.

The score remained 7-3 after Doherty missed a 45-yard field goal for Kansas early in the second stanza. Doherty appeared to hurt his groin on the play.

Pachall led TCU down to the 10-yard line on the ensuing possession. Following an incomplete pass on 3rd-and-4, Oberkrom missed a 27-yard field goal.

Crist completed three passes of at least 17 yards to move the ball into the red zone. An offensive holding penalty on 3rd-and-goal forced Kansas to try another field goal. Doherty made a 22-yarder to cut the gap to 7-6.

Oberkrom responded with a 37-yard field goal at the end of the half, making it a 10-6 contest.
