Recap: Kansas State vs. Kansas

Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - John Hubert carried the ball 10 times for 101 yards and four touchdowns, lifting the seventh-ranked Kansas State Wildcats over the Kansas Jayhawks, 56-16.

Collin Klein completed 7-of-14 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), who are unbeaten after five games for the second straight season. Klein also carried the ball 10 times for 116 yards and two scores.

Tyler Lockett and Travis Tannahill caught TD passes for Kansas State, which scored 35 points in the second half. The Wildcats racked up 346 yards on the ground and 475 yards overall.

"I am equally as angry about how we played early in the ballgame," Kansas State coach Bill Snyder said. "But as all of us coaches say, you have to give credit to the people on the other side of the ball. (KU) did a nice job of moving the ball against us and kept us off the field. We did a miserable job to start the ballgame. We had a three-and-out to start the ballgame and then they walked it down the field. So again, I was not too excited about our first-half performance."

Dayne Crist connected on 16-of-27 passes for 189 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions for the Jayhawks (1-4, 0-2), who have lost four in a row since starting the season with a win over South Dakota State.

James Sims rushed for 115 yards and a score on 28 carries.

Holding a 21-14 lead, Kansas State put the game away with a 28-point third quarter. The Wildcats' first drive of the period started at the Kansas 19 after Tramaine Thompson's 35-yard punt return. Tannahill caught a 2-yard TD pass just four plays later.

Crist was then intercepted by Allen Chapman at the Kansas State 2-yard line. But Hubert was tackled in the end zone on the next play for a safety.

However, Hubert quickly made up for his mistake. Following a fumble by Kansas, Hubert ripped off a 32-yard TD run to give the Wildcats a 35-16 lead.

Another Crist interception led to Hubert's 1-yard touchdown run. Klein added a 28-yard TD run on Kansas State's next drive to make it a 49-16 game with 2:21 to go.

"We did not do the things necessary to make plays. It felt like it took forever," Crist said of the third quarter.

Hubert's 10-yard TD run with 12:30 left in the fourth accounted for the final margin.

Tony Pierson took a screen pass 19 yards for a touchdown on Kansas' first possession of the game. The Jayhawks converted a pair of third downs on the 12-play, 83-yard drive.

Just six plays into Kansas State's ensuing possession, Hubert ripped off a 20- yard TD run.

Kansas followed with a 15-play, 73-yard scoring drive that featured a fake punt and field goal. On 4th-and-8, punter Ron Doherty kept the ball and ran for 13 yards. The Jayhawks set up for a field goal after moving the ball to the 23 of Kansas State. Blake Jablonski, though, took the snap and threw a 12- yard pass to Toben Opurum. Sims' 1-yard touchdown run made it 14-7 early in the second quarter.

It took the Wildcats just four plays to tie the game again. Klein recorded a 27-yard run before finding Lockett in the end zone for a 34-yard score.

Kansas State needed just three plays to find the end zone on its next possession. Angelo Pease and Klein started the quick drive with runs of 28 and 31 yards, respectively. Klein kept the ball on a quarterback sneak for a 1- yard score, making it 21-14 with 9:35 left in the half.

Doherty missed a 24-yard field goal on Kansas' ensuing possession and the Wildcats had a chance to add to their lead before the intermission.

Nigel Malone picked off Crist and returned the ball 55 yards to the 5-yard line. Klein used his legs to move the ball to the one, but time expired before he could run another play.
