Recap: TCU vs. Texas Tech

Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Seth Doege's 8-yard touchdown pass to Alex Torres in triple overtime lifted No. 18 Texas Tech past TCU, 56-53, on Saturday.

After both teams exchanged touchdowns on each of their first two overtime possessions, the Horned Frogs were limited to a field goal in the third extra session.

Doege hooked up with Darrin Moore for a 17-yard pickup on the second play of Texas Tech's third overtime touch before flipping the game-winning score to Torres over the middle two plays later.

Doege finished the day with 318 yards and seven touchdowns on 30-of-42 efficiency, while Torres hauled in five passes for 53 yards and two scores for the Red Raiders (6-1, 3-1 Big 12), who have won two straight on the heels of their blowout loss to Oklahoma.

"They outplayed us for most of the game, outcoached us and had us on our heels," Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We found ways to make some plays there in the second quarter and then at the end of the game. What a bizarre football game."

Eric Ward caught six balls for 61 yards and three touchdowns and Moore added five receptions for 63 yards and a score in the victory.

Playing in his second game in place of Casey Pachall, who entered a rehab facility following his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Trevone Boykin was 26-of-44 for 332 yards with four scores and two interceptions for TCU (5-2, 2-2), which has lost two of its last three since winning its first four games.

Skye Dawson caught 10 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown in the setback.

"We can't give up points, we can't give up missed tackles like we did near the end," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "We are going to lose when we do that. I told my kids in the locker room, there is no one to blame. I have to do a better job calling, coaches have to do a better job and we have to find a way to make plays. Welcome to the Big 12."

It appeared that the Red Raiders had the contest under control with 4:06 left in regulation following Kenny Williams' 47-yard touchdown scamper, which gave Texas Tech a 36-26 edge.

Led by Boykin, the Horned Frogs rallied.

Facing a 3rd-and-20 on TCU's ensuing drive, Boykin lofted a deep pass down the left sideline to LaDarius Brown, who hauled it in for a 60-yard score.

The Horned Frogs were unable to recover the onside kick, but with two timeouts and 2:25 on the clock, TCU was able to force a three-and-out and regained possession with 1:20 left in the quarter.

Dawson was left wide open along the left sideline on the first play of the series and dashed into Texas Tech territory at the 45-yard line. Two plays later, Boykin found Brown for a 10-yard gain and then hit Matthew Tucker for a 10-yard gain to put the ball at the 19-yard line.

Dartwan Bush then sacked Boykin for a loss of six yards, but freshman kicker Jaden Oberkrom, who was 6-for-6 on the day, calmly split the uprights from 42 yards out to send the game into overtime.

Josh Boyce hauled in an 8-yard TD pass before Texas Tech answered with Ward's 6-yard TD reception in the first overtime.

On the first play of the second overtime, Doege, lined up as a receiver in the wildcat formation, got the ball on a reverse and floated a 25-yard score to a wide-open Jakeem Grant for the touchdown. Boykin hit B.J. Catalon on the fourth play of TCU's ensuing series for a 7-yard score to send the game into a third extra session.

Oberkrom kicked a 38-yard field goal to set up the finish.

Earlier, Dawson brought in a 19-yard TD pass on TCU's opening possession of the game before Texas Tech tied it later in the frame when Doege flipped a 5- yard TD pass to Ward.

After Oberkrom nailed a 32-yard field goal late in the first, Tucker plunged in from four yards out midway through the second to give the Horned Frogs a 17-7 cushion.

Texas Tech countered with two touchdown drives.

First, Doege hooked up with Moore for a 33-yard score, and after the Red Raiders regained possession following a TCU fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Ward hauled in a 29-yard touchdown to make it 21-17 in favor of Texas Tech.

Oberkrom made a 41-yard field goal with 27 seconds left in the half, connected from 32 yards out with 4:09 left in the third and hit from 45 yards away on the second play of the fourth quarter, which gave the Horned Frogs a 26-21 edge.

Doege found Torres in the back left corner of the end zone with 6:40 remaining in the fourth and then hit Moore for the two-point conversion, which gave Texas Tech a 29-26 lead.
