Recap: BYU vs. Utah State

Provo, UT (Sports Network) - J.D. Falslev's touchdown catch late in the second quarter was the only touchdown of the game as BYU took a 6-3 win over Utah State.

Taysom Hill passed for 235 yards and a score along with an interception on 24- of-36 passing for the Cougars (4-2), who have won their past two games. Hill also had 19 carries for 80 yards, Jamaal Williams added 71 yards on 17 carries and Cody Hoffman caught eight passes for 114 yards.

Chuckie Keeton went 22-for-38 for 202 yards and added 23 yards on 10 carries for the Aggies (4-2), who had won their previous two coming into the contest. Matt Austin had seven catches for 72 yards in the loss.

The only points of the first quarter came late in the frame as Josh Thompson hit a 26-year field goal with 34 seconds left to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead. Earlier in the quarter, the Cougars were stopped on a 4th-and-1 at the Utah State 30.

Brigham Young lined up for a field goal with 4 1/2 minutes left in the second, but Justin Sorensen's 34-yard attempt was blocked.

With just 28 seconds to play in the half, the Cougars got the ball at their own 39 and three straight catches by Hoffman for eight, 28, and 22 yards got the ball down to the Utah State 3. The next play saw Hill hit Falslev in the end zone. The extra point was missed, though, and it was a 6-3 game at the break.

A Utah State fumble on the first possession of the second half saw BYU recover at the Utah State 9, but the team was unable to take advantage as the team went for it on fourth down and failed.

Later in the third, the Aggies got to the BYU 30, but Cameron Webb was picked off by Preston Hadley at the 2-yard line to kill the drive.

Taysom Hill was picked off early in the fourth quarter and the Aggies got into field goal range, but Thompson's 38-yarder sailed wide to the right.

Following an exchange of punts, the Cougars had the ball with a little over two minutes to play and the Aggies needed a stop, but they didn't get it as BYU was able to convert for two first downs and killed the rest of the clock.
