Recap: Utah vs. California

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Reggie Dunn made school history by recording a pair of 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns as the Utah Utes rolled over the California Bears, 49-27, in Pac-12 action at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

John White rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns while Kelvin York added 51 yards and a score on the ground for Utah (3-5, 1-4 Pac-12), which snapped a four-game losing streak. Travis Wilson completed 16-of-24 passes for 156 yards and an interception and he also rushed in a touchdown.

For Cal (3-6, 2-4), Zach Maynard finished 20-of-32 passing for 288 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Chris Harper led all receivers with seven catches for 86 yards and Brendan Bigelow gained 66 yards rushing and a touchdown on just two carries. With five catches, Keenan Allen became the program's all-time leader in receptions with 205.

Cal scored on the game's opening drive with a 49-yard field goal off the foot of Vincenzo D'Amato, although Utah answered immediately when Dunn returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead.

The Utes added to their lead later in the first quarter when Reggie Topps scooped up a Chris Harper fumble and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown.

The Bears opened up the second quarter with another D'Amato field goal (38 yards) to make it 14-6.

Utah closed out the first half with a pair of touchdowns. First, York scored on a one-yard touchdown rush with under seven minutes to play in the second quarter, then in the final minute before halftime Wilson scored on a five-yard rush as the Utes took a 28-6 lead.

It was much of the same for Utah to start the second half, as White ran in two touchdowns in the third quarter, one from 10 yards out and the other a seven- yarder, as its advantage ballooned to 42-6.

Cal finally put an end to the Utah run late in the third quarter when Bigelow ripped off a 57-yard touchdown rush, but the Utes countered with yet another 100-yard return score from Dunn.

Maynard tossed his two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, one to Allen for 23 yards and the other to Nick Forbes for seven yards, but the game was already well out of reach for the Bears.

The Utah defense forced three Cal turnovers on the evening.

Extra Points: Snyder and the Beltway radio wars

If contradiction was an Olympic sport, Chip Kelly would certainly be medal-worthy judging by his performance at the NFL's owners meeting but the Eagles coach might have to settle for silver because Daniel Snyder's critics will take the gold every time.

2015 PREVIEW NL EAST: It's the Nationals and everybody else

There isn't much after that. The Miami Marlins are loaded up for a playoff push -- likely through a wild card spot -- and the New York Mets are up-and- coming but still raw. The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, former powerhouses of the division, are going through rebuilds and won't contend anytime soon.
