Recap: Washington vs. USC

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Silas Redd ran for 155 yards on 26 carries with a score as 11th-ranked Southern California took a hard-fought 24-14 win over Washington.

Matt Barkley passed for 167 yards on 10-of-20 attempts with one touchdown and one interception for the Trojans (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12), who have won three straight since a loss at Stanford on Sept. 15.

"I thought our guys really played well, closed the game out, flew to the ball, ran the ball well at times and scored on special teams, so we are glad to get out of here with the win," said USC head coach Lane Kiffin. "It's been a long first half of the season, four road games out of six, we're back in L.A. for five of the next six, and we'll load up and go back."

Keith Price had two touchdown passes and threw for 198 yards on 20-of-28 chances, but he was picked off twice and also lost two fumbles for the Huskies (3-3, 1-2), who have dropped their past two games.

Holding a 17-point lead in the third quarter, USC lined up for a 41-yard field goal from Andre Heidari, but it was blocked and Washington took over at its own 24-yard line.

The first play saw Price hit Austin Seferian-Jenkins for 34 yards and DiAndre Campbell followed with a 21-yard catch. Two plays later, Seferian-Jenkins hauled in a 29-yard score to make it a 24-14 game with 6:02 to play in the third.

Following a three-and-out from USC, Washington got into scoring position, but Travis Coons missed from 45 yards out.

After holding the Trojans, the Huskies drove down the field and eventually had a 1st-and-goal at the 6-yard line. On second down, though, Price fumbled on a run and USC's Jawanza Starling recovered with 11:03 to play.

USC wasn't able to get any points off the turnover, but the team did take the ball down to the Washington 27 and killed off over 5 1/2 minutes of the clock. The team went for it on 4th-and-5, but Barkley was sacked and Washington took over at its own 36-yard line with 5:26 to play.

Price was picked off by Josh Shaw on the ensuing drive, but Washington got the ball back less than a minute later after a three-and-out.

Price again turned the ball over, though, as he fumbled on a carry to seal the win for the Trojans.

"Frustrating loss to say the least," said Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian. "That's two consecutive weeks now that we took the field and we didn't respond good in the first half of the game. When you've got good teams and you go in the locker room down it's hard, and it makes it hard to win. I will say that I was extremely proud of our football team in the second half. I thought they responded, they battled, they competed, they showed a great deal of mental and physical toughness in the second half."

USC's first play went for 57 yards as Redd took a handoff down to the Washington 9-yard line. The team only came away with three points, though, as Heidari kicked the ball through the uprights from 23 yards out for a 3-0 lead.

On Washington's first play following the kickoff, Dion Bailey picked off a Price pass and the Trojans had the ball at the Huskies' 34. Three plays later, Redd punched it in from 11 yards out for a 10-0 lead with 10:29 left in the first quarter.

After an exchange of punts, Washington started with the ball at its own 42- yard line and marched the length of the field. On the eight play, Price found Kasen Williams in the end zone from 17 yards out to make it a 10-7 game with 1:38 left in the first.

The Trojans countered with a score of their own to again make it a 10-point game. The nine-play, 76-yard drive was finished when Barkley and Xavier Grimble got together for an 18-yard score and a 17-7 lead with 12:22 to play in the half.

Later in the second quarter, Washington fell short on a 3rd-and-14 and had to punt. Anthony Brown came charging up the middle and blocked Coons' punt. After the ball bounced around, Brown picked it up and went into the end zone from seven yards out to give USC a 24-7 lead that it took into the break.
