Recap: Utah State vs. Utah

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Kerwynn Williams scored the winning touchdown in overtime as Utah State took a 27-20 win over Utah.

Chuckie Keeton passed for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-32 attempts while Williams added 95 yards on 17 carries along with the score for the Aggies (2-0), who snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Utes.

Jon Hays was 12-for-26 with 154 yards and a score and Kenneth Scott had three catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns for the Utes (1-1), who defeated Northern Colorado last week to open the season.

The Aggies were facing a 3rd-and-9 at their own 24 in overtime, but Keeton rolled out to the left and found plenty of room to take the ball down to the 1-yard line before being pushed out-of-bounds. Two plays later, Williams punched it in off right tackle.

Utah had a 1st-and-goal at the 6-yard line, but a rush for no gain was followed by an offensive pass interference call. The next two plays went incomplete and the home crowd rushed the field.

The first touchdown came on a special teams play, as Utah had a punt blocked in its own end zone and Clayton Christensen recovered to give Utah State a 7-0 lead just over seven minutes in.

Later in the first, the Aggies recovered a fumble at their own 28 and used that turnover to put more points on the board. On a 2nd-down play at the Utah 15, Keeton hit Joe Hill in the end zone, but the extra point was missed and it was a 13-0 game heading to the second.

The only points of the second quarter came on the final play of the half as Coleman Petersen hit a 42-yard field goal to get Utah on the board and make it a 13-3 game at the break.

Utah recovered a Utah State fumble near midfield on the first drive of the second half and took advantage of the short field as Travis Wilson hit Scott in the end zone from 28 yards out for a 13-10 game.

Petersen tied the game for the Utes later in the third on a 40-yard field goal with just over four minutes left following another Aggies fumble.

Utah State took the lead back with just over nine minutes to play in the game when Keeton and Kellen Bartlett got together on a 4-yard score for a 20-13 lead. The score was set-up on a 23-yard catch by Matt Austin followed by a 34- yard run from Williams.

Following an exchange of punts, the Utes tied the game with a 5-play, 67-yard march that was capped on a leaping catch in the end zone by Scott from 24 yards out with just over three minutes to play.

Petersen lined up for a 52-yard field goal attempt on the final play of regulation, but was way off the mark.
