Recap: Indiana vs. Michigan State

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Le'Veon Bell carried 37 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns, as the Michigan State Spartans rallied for a 31-27 win over the Indiana Hoosiers in Big Ten Conference action at Memorial Stadium.

Andrew Maxwell threw for 290 yards and a pair of TDs to help the Spartans (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten) win for the 12th time in the last 14 meetings with Indiana. Aaron Burbridge finished with 134 yards on eight catches in the victory.

Cameron Coffman passed for 282 yards and three scores, and Shane Wynn caught 12 passes for 70 yards and a TD for the Hoosiers (2-3, 0-2).

Indiana raced out of the gate with 17 unanswered points in the first quarter. Coffman found Stephen Houston for a 19-yard touchdown past just over a minute into the game.

After a 32-yard field goal by Mitch Ewald midway through the opening frame, IU scored again on a 21-yard pass from Coffman to Ted Bolser at the 1:38 mark of the first quarter.

Bell's two-yard TD plunge got the Spartans on the board with 10:40 to play in the second quarter, capping a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took nearly six minutes off the clock.

Four minutes later, MSU cut the deficit to 17-14 on Maxwell's 15-yard scoring strike to Larry Caper.

However, IU was able to close out the half strong. Coffman gave the Hoosiers a 24-14 lead with a 17-yard TD pass to Wynn with 4:26 to play until halftime. They attempted an on-side kick and recovered, setting up an eventual 19-yard field goal from Ewald to take a 27-14 lead into the break.

The Spartans were plagued by penalties, as they were whistled seven times for 105 yards in the first half alone. However, they were able to regroup at intermission and began to execute much better in the second half.

MSU kicker Dan Conroy accounted for the only points of the third quarter with a 46-yard field goal.

Bell scored his second rushing TD of the day at the 7:49 mark of the fourth quarter, this time from one yard, to pull the Spartans to within 27-24.

MSU's defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball right back. On the third play of the Spartans' next drive, Maxwell found Bennie Fowler for a 36-yard touchdown pass to take a 31-27 lead with 6:35 remaining. The Hoosiers fumbled the ball away on their next possession, and MSU ran out the final six minutes.

Rallying from 17 points down, the Spartans tied their largest comeback under head coach Mark Dantonio.
