Recap: Iowa vs. Central Mich

Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - David Harman kicked a career-long 47-yard field goal with three seconds remaining, as the Central Michigan Chippewas rallied for a 32-31 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium.

Coming off a bye week, the Chippewas (2-1) looked sharp in their first road game of the season. Ryan Radcliff completed 26-of-35 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns, both of which went to Titus Davis. Cody Wilson finished with a team-high 105 yards on eight catches, while Zurlon Tipton paced the ground game with 72 yards and a score on 16 carries.

Hawkeyes (2-2) running back Mark Weisman had a huge day in the loss, finishing with a career-best 217 yards and three TDs on 27 carries. Iowa, which has gone to a bowl game in each of the last 11 seasons, opens Big Ten play next week against Minnesota.

Iowa scored on the game's fifth play from scrimmage, as James Vandenberg found Kevonte Martin-Manley for a 10-yard touchdown strike.

Central Michigan answered with an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive, capped by Tipton's eight-yard touchdown run.

Weisman lost a fumble on the first play of the ensuing possession, setting up CMU with great field position. The Chippewas went three and out, although Harman was able to convert a 33-yard field goal to make it a 10-7 game.

Weisman atoned for his miscue on the very next drive, as he scored on a 34- yard run to put the Hawkeyes back on top.

However, the second quarter belonged to the Chippewas. Radcliff tossed a 29- yard touchdown pass to Davis to give CMU a 17-14 lead with 11:51 remaining in the half. Harman added field goals of 25 and 20 yards in the final two minutes of the second quarter, sending the Chippewas into the locker room with a 23-14 halftime lead.

Iowa cut the deficit to 23-21 at the 9:18 mark of the third quarter on Weisman's second TD run of the day, this time from five yards.

The Hawkeyes began to take control in the fourth quarter. Mike Meyer booted a 46-yard field goal to put Iowa on top, 24-23 with 8:07 to play in regulation. Weisman notched his third rushing TD of the day on a 12-yard run with 2:18 remaining to put the Hawkeyes in the driver's seat, or so it seemed.

However, the Chippewas made one final push. Radcliff tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Davis with 45 seconds remaining, but they were not able to convert the two-point attempt and the score remained 31-29. CMU attempted an on-side kick but was whistled for delay of game. On the second attempt, the Chippewas recovered to remain alive.

Radcliff then drove his team down to the Iowa 30-yard line in a hurry, setting up Harman's career-long field goal in the final seconds.

The Chippewas won the time of possession battle by 13 minutes, as they held Iowa to 1-of-8 on third downs.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
