Recap: Michigan State vs. Iowa

East Lansing, MI (Sports Network) - Greg Castillo recorded an interception in the second overtime to clinch a 19-16 road victory for the Iowa Hawkeyes over Michigan State at Spartan Stadium.

James Vandenberg completed 19-of-36 passes for 134 yards and threw an interception while under center for Iowa (4-2, 2-0 Big Ten), which is still undefeated in league action. Mark Weisman gained 116 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.

For Michigan State (4-3, 1-2), Le'Veon Bell picked up 140 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. Andrew Maxwell threw for 179 yards with an interception on 12- of-31 passing. Aaron Burbridge had a game-high 89 yards on five receptions.

The Spartans took a 7-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first quarter when Bell dashed 14 yards across the goal line.

MSU added on to its lead in the second quarter as Dan Conroy made a 24-yard field goal.

Iowa finally scored its first points with 4:09 left in the first half with a 23-yard field goal by Mike Meyer. The kick sent the Hawkeyes into halftime trailing 10-3.

After a scoreless third quarter, Meyer connected on a 28-yard field goal to cut MSU's advantage down to 10-6. The Spartans retaliated with a 22-yard field goal by Conroy which pushed their lead back up to seven points.

Iowa scored its first touchdown just in time as Weisman rushed five yards into the end zone with 55 seconds left in regulation. MSU was unable to score before time ran out which sent the game into overtime.

MSU settled for a 24-yard field goal on the opening possession of the first overtime. Iowa was unable to capitalize, but did force a second overtime as Meyer connected on a 27-yard kick.

Iowa was unable to get anything going in the second overtime and ended up settling for a 42-yard field goal by Meyer. The Hawkeyes' defensive unit then sealed the victory with the game-winning interception off of a deflection.

Despite the loss, MSU gained 328 yards on offense and held Iowa to 257 yards.
