Recap: Purdue vs. Eastern Mich

West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Caleb TerBush threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, as the Purdue Boilermakers rolled to a 54-16 win over visiting Eastern Michigan at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Akeem Hunt ran for 106 yards on just four carries. He was also one of six different players to notch a rushing touchdown for the Boilermakers (2-1), who rebounded well from last week's setback to Notre Dame in the final seconds.

Dominique Sherrer paced the Eagles (0-3) offense with 73 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Purdue grabbed a 7-0 lead at the 3:35 mark of the first quarter when Akeem Shavers broke free for a 40-yard touchdown burst.

Later in the opening frame, TerBursh found Antavian Edison for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it a 13-0 game. Kicker Sam McCartney missed the extra- point attempt.

EMU got on the board with 13:04 remaining in the second quarter thanks to its defense, as sophomore defensive back Pudge Cotton stepped in front of a TerBush pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Dylan Mulder missed the extra-point attempt.

On the second play of Purdue's next drive, Cotton recovered a fumble at the Boilermakers' 32-yard line, setting up an eventual 23-yard field goal by Mulder to make it a 13-9 game.

However, Purdue began to seize control from that point. TerBush answered with a 50-yard scoring strike to Hunt on the ensuing drive. Later in the second quarter, Brandon Cottom extended the Boilermakers' lead to 27-9 on an 87-yard touchdown run. TerBush tacked on a two-yard touchdown scamper with nine seconds to play until the half. McCartney, however, missed the extra point for the second time as Purdue took a 33-9 lead into the locker room.

Hunt produced another big play at the 9:44 mark of the third quarter when he scored on a 56-yard run, making it a 40-9 game.

Raheem Mostert pushed Purdue's lead to 47-9 on a 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter. EMU's Tyler Benz scored on a two-yard run midway through the quarter, and Purdue wrapped up the scoring with a 12-play, 74-yard drive, capped by Danny Anthrop's four yard TD run.

The Boilermakers finished with 576 yards of total offense, compared to 313 for EMU. Purdue converted 10-of-15 third downs for the game and came away with touchdowns on all four of its trips to the red zone.

Buffs hoping to stampede way back to respectability

It's been more than two decades since the football team at the University of Colorado hoisted its one and only national championship trophy, and the program has struggled to remain relevant ever since.
