Recap: Hawaii vs. South Alabama

Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Sean Schroeder threw for a touchdown and Sterling Jackson rushed for another as Hawaii downed South Alabama, 23-7, in the season finale for both teams.

Schroeder completed 10-of-21 passes for 131 yards with two interceptions for the Warriors (3-9), who won their last two games.

Jackson finished with 68 yards on 13 carries, while Joey Iosefa paced Hawaii with 97 yards on 14 totes.

Ross Metheny threw for 111 yards with a pair of interceptions on 11-of-24 efficiency for South Alabama (2-11), which remained winless in seven road games this season.

South Alabama received the ball first and drove as far as the Hawaii 14 with the help of a pair of 15-yard penalties by the Warriors, but Mike Edwards intercepted a Metheny pass in the end zone to halt the drive.

The Warriors capitalized on the turnover in just five plays as Billy Ray Stutzmann's 50-yard reception highlighted the 80-yard drive Jackson capped with a 1-yard rumble across the goal line.

The Jaguars were held to a three-and-out on their next touch, and Stutzmann hauled in a couple of double-digit gains to set up Tyler Hadden's 41-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead with 4:46 left in the first quarter.

Hawaii regained the ball at its own 32 following another South Alabama punt, but Stutzmann had the ball punched loose by Tyrell Pearson on the first play of the second quarter and the Jaguars recovered at the Hawaii 44.

South Alabama would net just three yards on the ensuing drive, though, and Hadden connected on kicks of 42 and 40 yards on the Warriors' next two touches to give Hawaii a 16-0 lead at the break as South Alabama failed to advance the ball past midfield for the remainder of the half.

After the Jaguars could not take advantage of a Pearson interception of Schroeder deep inside their own territory on the opening possession of the third quarter, Hawaii pulled further away with a 6-play, 60-yard march Schroeder capped with a 26-yard strike to Chris Gant.

South Alabama then could not convert a 4th-and-2 at the Hawaii 33 and failed to turn another Schroeder interception into points when Metheny was picked off by Ne'Quan Phillips on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars were able to get on the board with an 11-play, 80-yard drive C.J. Bennett finished off with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Wes Saxton with 6:22 to play,

But Hawaii was able to run out all but 1:13 of clock on its next touch to seal the victory for the Warriors.
