Recap: Memphis vs. Middle Tennessee

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Logan Kilgore completed 22-of-30 pass attempts for 253 yards and a two scores as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders routed the Memphis Tigers, 48-30, at Liberty Bowl Stadium.

Anthony Amos was Kilgore's favorite target on the night as the receiver caught nine passes for 128 yards for Middle Tennessee (2-1). With the win the Blue Raiders are above .500 for the first time since 2009.

Jacob Karam threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-37 passing for Memphis (0-3) but was also intercepted once. Marcus Rucker (177 yards, 2 TDs) and Keiwone Malone (102 yards) each caught a game-high 10 passes.

A seven-play, 75-yard march on Middle Tennessee's opening drive took just over two minutes and was capped with a Kilgore passing touchdown to Christian Collis from 12 yards out.

Memphis responded with a 38-yard field goal by Tyler Spurlock and then a 49- yard touchdown pass from Karam to Rucker. That touchdown, which came just eight seconds into the second quarter, put the Tigers ahead 10-7.

A 19-yard field goal by Carlos Lopez just under four minutes later knotted the game at 10-10. The Blue Raiders recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set up another Lopez field goal (43 yards) pushing Middle Tennessee ahead 13-10.

The Blue Raiders kept distancing themselves from the Tigers when Kevin Byard intercepted a Karam pass and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown. With the extra point the Blue Raiders held a 20-10 lead.

It didn't get any better for the Tigers in the quarter. A Karam fumble was recovered by Memphis and set up a six-yard rushing touchdown from Benny Cunningham to put the Blue Raiders up 27-10.

Karam made up for his blunder on the Tigers' next drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Rucker leaving the score 27-17 in favor of Middle Tennessee heading into the locker room.

A one-yard rushing touchdown by Cunningham early in the second half, followed by a two-yard rushing touchdown by Drayton Calhoun, made the score 41-17 in favor of the visitors.

The Tigers wouldn't go down quietly however, inching closer on a six-yard rushing touchdown by Jerrell Rhodes. The score stood at 41-23 when the ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed.

However, the Tiger defense just couldn't find an answer for the Middle Tennessee offense which scored yet again on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Kilgore to Collis on the squad's next drive.

Memphis added a touchdown with just over a minute left in regulation on a one- yard run by Carl Harris to account for the final score.

Middle Tennessee was a perfect 6-for-6 in the red zone with five of those conversions resulting in touchdowns.
