Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Tulane

El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Nick Lamaison threw for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help guide the Texas-El Paso Miners to a 24-20 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in Conference USA action at Sun Bowl Stadium.

Lamaison converted 11-of-16 passes for the Miners (2-6, 1-3 CUSA) as they snapped a four-game slide. Carson Meger connected on 9-of-14 passes for another 71 yards as well. Michael Edwards reeled in a game-high seven passes for 82 yards and both aerial scores for the hosts.

Tulane (1-6, 1-2) was paced by Ryan Griffin who hit on 28-of-44 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns as the team bowed following its lone win of 2012 last week, a 27-26 decision over SMU.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter as Josh Bell found the end zone on a 14-yard run for the Miners to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive and Griffin hooked up with Justyn Shackleford for a 31-yard TD pass play late in the frame to tie the score at 7-7.

Edwards recorded touchdown receptions of 28 and nine yards in a span of less than six minutes in the second frame, but in between Tulane kicker Cairo Santos knocked through a 46-yard field goal which made the score 21-10 in favor of the hosts with just under seven minutes to play before intermission.

Griffin needed just five plays to direct the Green Wave into the end zone shortly thereafter, culminating with a 15-yard TD pass to Ryan Grant which made the score 21-17.

Before the end of the half, UTEP gave itself a little breathing room with a 22-yard field goal by Steven Valadez.

After a scoreless third quarter, the only points of the second half came courtesy of Santos who knocked through a 37-yard field goal for the visitors, but it wasn't quite enough as the Miners held on for the four-point triumph.

Tulane, which entered the week ranked last in the nation in total offense (219.5 ypg), responded with 440 yards versus the Miners. Averaging a mere 18.8 ypg on the ground through six contests, the Green Wave managed to come away with 77 net rushing yards on 24 attempts.
