Southern Miss would respond with an 81-yard touchdown pass from Favor to Pierce midway through the fourth quarter.

Autrey Golden then took the ensuing kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown and UTEP was on top once again, 34-27.

Favor scored on a two-yard touchdown run on Southern Miss' next possession after which the Golden Eagles elected to go for two. Favor's pass on the conversion attempt fell incomplete and the Miners were able to run out the clock on its next possession.
