Recap: Louisiana Tech vs. UNLV

Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Kenneth Dixon ran for 102 yards and four touchdowns as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs ran away from the UNLV Rebels, 58-31, in non-conference action at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Dixon carried the ball 16 times for the Bulldogs (5-0) as they remained perfect on the season. Ray Holley led all ball carriers with 139 yards and scored once on 22 attempts. Quarterback Colby Cameron converted 31-of-45 passes for 316 yards and a score for the hosts as well.

The Rebels (1-4), losers of two straight, were paced by Nick Sherry who hit on 22-of-46 passes for 378 yards and four touchdowns and was picked off once in the losing cause. Devante Davis caught eight passes for a game-high 186 yards and a score.

After just 15 minutes of action the Bulldogs owned a 20-7 advantage as Cameron had a six-yard TD pass to Quinton Patton, Holley found the end zone on a nine- yard run and kicker Matt Nelson knocked through field goals of 27 and 33 yards.

The Rebels managed to score a touchdown of their own at the 9:42 mark of the first frame when Sherry hooked up with Taylor Barnhill on a 33-yard pass play.

Dixon scored the first of his TDs in the second period when he capped a 10- play, 98-yard drive with a one-yard run to make the score 27-7.

Refusing to go away quietly, UNLV scored 10 points in the final six minutes of the first half as Sherry and Davis combined on a 27-yard TD pass and kicker Nolan Kohorst made good on a 25-yard field goal, cutting the deficit to 27-17 at the break.

Sherry took the Rebels down the field on their first possession of the third quarter, threading the needle on several passes, one of those being a 46-yard effort to Marcus Sullivan which ended up in the end zone. However, Sherry was hit hard on the final play of the drive and he was clearly in pain on the sidelines as a result.

Aided by a pass interference penalty on the Rebels, Louisiana Tech marched right down the field in less than two minutes and scored a touchdown of their own as Dixon crossed the goal line from 10 yards out to push the difference to double figures once more.

Nelson added a field goal of 43 yards for the Bulldogs and later in the frame Dixon scored his third touchdown of the night on a 15-yard run up the middle to give the hosts a commanding 44-24 advantage.

Less than three minutes into the fourth quarter it was Dixon yet again for the Bulldogs as he bulled his way into the end zone from seven yards out to extend the LaTech lead to 27 points. Eating up almost four and a half minutes on the clock, the Bulldogs finished off an eight-play, 55-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run by Hunter Lee in order to reach a season-high 58 points.

Barely a minute later Sherry rushed the Rebels down the field once more and managed to register one more score, thanks to a 13-yard TD pass to Anthony Williams but by then it was too little, too late.

Ranked first in the Western Athletic Conference and fifth in the nation in scoring (52.0 ppg) heading into the week, Louisiana Tech is now undefeated through five games for the first time since 1975 and has extended its regular- season win streak to 12 straight.
