Recap: Miami-Florida vs. So Florida

Miami Gardens, FL (Sports Network) - Stephen Morris passed for 413 yards and three touchdowns as the Miami-Florida Hurricanes became bowl eligible by completing a 40-9 rout of the South Florida Bulls in a late-season non- conference duel between the in-state rivals at Sun Life Stadium.

Morris connected on 21-of-32 attempts and did not throw an interception while under center for Miami (6-5). Phillip Dorsett made a game-high 12 receptions for 111 yards. Herb Waters and Clive Walford respectively finished with 130 and 135 receiving yards and both made a touchdown grab. Kendal Thompkins was almost the fourth Hurricane to eclipse the century mark in receiving yards as he finished with 80 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Duke Johnson picked up 67 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries while Rayshawn Jenkins anchored the Hurricanes' defensive unit with seven tackles and an interception.

Matt Floyd could not get into a rhythm while under center for USF (3-7), completing only 20-of-35 attempts for 175 yards with two interceptions. Demetrius Murray managed to pick up a game-high 108 yards on 16 carries, but he was unable to find his way into the end zone. The Bulls have now lost seven of their last eight games.

The only points of the opening quarter came courtesy of a 39-yard field goal by Jake Wieclaw, which gave Miami a 3-0 lead.

Wieclaw connected on a pair of field goals from 22 and 37 yards away to start the second quarter as well. Miami built upon its three field goal lead when Morris completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Thompkins at the 9:24 mark of the second contest.

USF managed to get on the board when Maikon Bonani kicked 23-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired in the first half. Bonani's chip shot sent the Bulls into halftime trailing, 16-3.

The Hurricanes opened up the second half with three unanswered touchdowns. Johnson rushed eight yards for a score at the 11:06 mark of the third frame before Morris competed a pair of big passes for scores. First Morris connected with Waters for an 87-yard touchdown pass in the middle of the third frame, then he connected with Walford for a 65-yard score through the air in the opening minute of the fourth frame.

Bonani stooped the run with just over 10 minutes to play with a 25-yard field goal. Wieclaw answered with a 33-yard kick through the uprights of his own to give Miami a 40-6 lead at the 6:46 mark of the final period. Bonani added one more field goal to finalize the score.

Miami amassed 548 yards of total offense as it became bowl eligible under Al Golden for the second time.
