Recap: Ball State vs. So Florida

Muncie, IN (Sports Network) - Keith Wenning completed 24-of-36 attempts for 244 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Ball State Cardinals to a 31-27 victory over the South Florida Bulls at Scheumann Stadium.

Running back Jahwan Edwards also had a big game for Ball State (3-1) with 98 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries. Willie Snead, who had the game winning catch for the Cardinals, brought in 11 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown.

B.J. Daniels of South Florida (2-2) completed 19-of-30 attempts for 312 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. He also ran for 75 yards on 14 carries. His favorite target of the game was Lindsey Lamar, who caught five passes for 80 yards and two scores.

On the first drive, the Bulls settled for a 42-yard field goal from Maikon Bonani to put them up 3-0.

The Cardinals responded with a 39-yard field goal from Steven Schott to tie the game at 3-3.

Ball State then regained possession and Edwards scored on a three-yard touchdown run to put the Cardinals up 10-3.

Daniels took the Bulls into the end zone with a 15-yard pass to Lamar, but the extra point attempt was blocked which left the score at 10-9.

On the opening drive of the second half, the Cardinals' offense marched 75 yards down the field before Wenning plunged into the end zone on a one yard run to put Ball State up 17-9.

The Bulls responded with 27-yard field goal by Bonani, bringing them within five with 5:36 left to play in the third frame.

Wenning connected with Jamill Smith for a five yard touchdown pass to extend the Cardinals' lead to 24-12.

USF responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Andre Davis from Daniels which brought the score to 24-19.

The Bulls came right back with a Daniels touchdown pass to Lamar for 29 yards and then converted on the two-point conversion to take the lead, 27-24.

Wenning took the Cardinals back into the end zone with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Snead to put Ball State back up 31-27.

On the ensuing possession, Daniels threw an interception to Avery Bailey which sealed the win for Ball State.

USF lost despite gaining 518 total yards of offense and limiting Ball State to 314. The Bulls committed 11 penalties for 112 yards.
