Recap: Duke vs. Miami-Florida

Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Stephen Morris threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns as the Miami Hurricanes held off the Duke Blue Devils 52-45 in the regular season finale at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Morris completed 15-of-25 pass attempts for Miami (7-4, 5-3 ACC). Duke Johnson racked up 176 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Mike James had a touchdown and 67 yards on 17 carries and caught three passes for 97 yards and an additional score. Clive Walford caught four passes for 99 yards and a score as well.

Sean Renfree completed 36-of-59 pass attempts for 432 yards and four touchdowns for Duke (6-6, 3-5). Conner Vernon led the team in receptions with 11 for 109 yards and two scores. Jamison Crowder meanwhile brought in eight passes for 203 yards and two scores of his own.

Miami got off to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Morris to Walford and an 18-yard touchdown run from Johnson.

Duke got on the boards with a 43-yard field goal from Ross Martin near the end of the first frame.

The Blue Devils cut further into the deficit with a four-yard touchdown run from Brandon Connette that capped off a 15-play, 81-yard drive.

Miami responded with rushing touchdowns from Johnson (six yards) and James (one yard) to close out the half with a 28-10 lead.

The Hurricanes were also the first to score in the second half on a 23-yard field goal from Jake Wieclaw.

In consecutive possessions the Blue Devils got touchdown passes from Renfree, the first a 10-yard strike to Vernon and the second a 23-yard pass to Crowder, to pull within a touchdown, 31-24.

Miami extended its lead to 38-24 on a 65-yard touchdown from Johnson run on its next possession.

James then caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from Morris and the Hurricanes were up by 21 points yet again.

In the fourth quarter the Blue Devils got a 99-yard touchdown pass from Renfree to Crowder and a six-yard scoring strike from Renfree to Vernon to pull within a score, 45-38.

On its next possession Morris threw a 65-yard touchdown pas to Herb Waters.

Duke cut the lead to one score yet again with a one-yard touchdown run from Connette with 2:32 remaining. However Miami was able to earn a first down on the ensuing drive and hold on for the win.

The two teams combined for 1,229 yards of total offense.
