Recap: Troy vs. Arkansas State

Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Ryan Aplin threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns as he guided the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 41-34 win over the Troy Trojans in Sun Belt Conference play at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Aplin completed 28-of-42 passes for the Red Wolves (8-3, 6-1 Sun Belt) and was intercepted once as the team rattled off a sixth straight victory. David Oku helped out on the ground with a game-high 93 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

The Trojans (5-6, 3-4) were paced by Corey Robinson who completed 26-of-35 for 417 yards and a score, while kicker Will Scott converted all four of his field goal tries to make things interesting.

ASU took the first possession of the meeting 94 yards in 10 plays and capitalized with a five-yard TD strike from Aplin to Julian Jones, but a failed PAT left the squad with only a 6-0 advantage.

Five minutes later the Trojans responded with a 51-yard TD pass play between Robinson and Chip Reeves to give the hosts a one-point edge.

Later in the first, the Red Wolves against found their way into the end zone on a 31-yard pass from Aplin to J.D. McKissic and this time the PAT was successful.

In the second period Troy assumed the lead as Deon Anthony crossed the goal line on a one-yard run and Scott booted a 19-yard field goal to make the score 17-13 in favor of the home team.

However, with only 12 seconds remaining in the half, Aplin's nine-yard TD toss to Taylor Stockemer capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive and gave ASU the lead heading into the break.

In the third Scott hit on kicks from 18 and 38 yards out, but Arkansas State did better than match those scoring efforts as Oku reeled in a 43-yard TD pass from Aplin and then carried the ball for a five-yard TD run later in the period to give the visitors a 34-23 lead.

The Troy defense made some noise at the 10:23 mark of the fourth quarter when Brynden Trawick returned an interception 70 yards for a score, with a successful two-point conversion making the difference just three points.

Oku's one-yard scoring run with just under five minutes remaining again pushed the advantage to double digits and the only response the Trojans could muster was a 29-yard field goal by Scott just over a minute later.

Both teams finished with more than 500 yards of offense, while the Trojans didn't help their cause by being flagged 11 times for 96 yards.
