Recap: South Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee

Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Logan Kilgore threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders captured a 20-12 win over the South Alabama Jaguars in Sun Belt Conference action at Ladd Peebles Stadium.

Kilgore converted 16-of-29 passes for the Blue Raiders (7-3, 5-1 Sun Belt) as they won their third straight and the fourth in the last five games. Wideout Jeremiah Bryson caught six passes for a game-high 90 yards and a score, while Jordan Parker ran the ball 24 times and finished with a game-high 154 yards on the ground for the visitors.

The Jaguars (2-9, 1-6) were paced by Ross Metheny who converted 17-of-30 passes for 189 yards and a score, but he was also picked off three times as the team lost a fourth-straight outing.

USA scored the first points of the day in the opening frame as kicker Michel Chapuseaux knocked through a 19-yard field goal to finish off a 14-play, 74- yard drive.

The Blue Raiders responded with a 49-yard TD pass from Kilgore to Bryson later in the period and then took the lead with a 26-yard field goal by Carlos Lopez.

With time running down in the half, the Jags again moved into field goal range and had Chapuseaux convert a 45-yard effort to cut the deficit to 10-6 at the break.

On the opening drive of the second half, Kilgore directed the Blue Raiders on a 75-yard drive that used up more than five minutes and culminated with a six- yard scoring strike to Anthony Amos to move the lead to double figures at 17-6.

The first and only TD of the day for the hosts occurred with just under four minutes to play in the third as Metheny hooked up with Corey Besteda on an 18- yard pass play, but a two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving USA behind by five.

Finishing off the game's scoring, Lopez converted a 19-yard field goal at the 6:27 mark of the fourth quarter to put the contest out of reach and into the win column for Middle Tennessee.

The Blue Raiders converted just 4-of-14 on third down in the meeting, but more importantly the squad maintained possession of the ball for a total of 22 minutes in the second half alone.
