Recap: ULM vs. North Texas

Monroe, Louisiana (Sports Network) - Kolton Browning returned to action and accounted for four touchdowns as the ULM Warhawks made history with their 42-16 Sun Belt Conference win over the North Texas Mean Green at Malone Stadium.

With the win, ULM (7-4, 5-2 Sun Belt) has assured itself its first-ever winning season as a member of the FBS. Browning, who missed last week's loss to Arkansas State with an injury, completed 25-of-34 passes for 324 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception and ran for another score. Je'Ron Hamm caught seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Brent Leonard (eight receptions, 93 yards, TD) also had a big day receiving.

For North Texas (4-7,3-4), Derek Thompson completed 27-of-43 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions. Brandin Byrd had 77 yards rushing, and Carlos Harris made eight receptions for 118 yards.

ULM scored the only points of the first quarter when Browning rushed in a one- yard touchdown midway through the frame.

After Zach Olen kicked a 29-yard field goal for North Texas midway through the second quarter, the Warhawks extended their lead to 14-3 just before halftime when Browning connected with Leonard on a seven-yard touchdown.

ULM added to its lead after intermission when Mitchell Bailey rushed in a seven-yard score at the 8:28 mark of the third quarter, but North Texas kept within striking distance when Thompson hooked up with Andrew Power for a four- yard touchdown less than four minutes later to make its deficit just 11, 21-10.

The Warhawks put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter when Browning connected with Hamm for a couple of scores, one for 24 yards and the other a 61-yarder. Thompson added a 15-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Smith late in the fourth quarter, but ULM put an exclamation point on the win with a DeVontae McNeal 54-yard touchdown run.

ULM converted 9-of-14 third down attempts on the afternoon and scored touchdowns on all three of its red zone drives.
