Recap: South Alabama vs. Troy

Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - The Troy Trojans overcame three interceptions from quarterback Corey Robinson to claim a 31-10 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars in Sun Belt Conference play at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Robinson completed 15-of-24 passes for 223 yards in the game but it was Deon Anthony who threw for the only passing touchdown for Troy (3-2, 2-1 Sun Belt). Anthony completed all three of his pass attempts for 58 yards. Shawn Southward ran for 86 of the Trojans' 214 rushing yards and Eric Thomas had 78 yards receiving on three receptions. Troy has now won back-to-back games.

C.J. Bennett rushed for 79 yards and threw for 22 for South Alabama (1-4, 0-1), which was making its conference debut. Bennett completed only 2-of-11 passes while Ross Metheny was marginally better completing 6-of-10 for 37 yards and an interception. The loss was the third straight for the Jaguars.

Troy got out to a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter with a 21-yard field goal from Will Scott and a one-yard touchdown run from Justin Albert.

South Alabama pulled to within three, 10-7, on a three-yard touchdown run from Trey Fetner to cap off a 12-play, 94-yard drive just before the end of the quarter.

The Trojans lead expanded early in the second quarter with Chandler Worthy catching a seven-yard touchdown pass from Anthony.

Troy added to its lead with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Robinson with just over two minutes to play in the first half.

Michel Chapuseaux nailed a 53-yard field goal as time expired in the half to cut the Trojans' lead to 24-10 heading into intermission.

Neither team was able to put up any points in the second half until midway through the fourth quarter when D.J. Taylor scored on a one-yard touchdown run to push the Trojans' lead to 31-10.

Only 59 of South Alabama's 252 yards of total offense came through the air. The Jaguars were guilty of 15 penalties in the game. Troy finished with 495 total yards and a 7-for-12 conversion rate on third down.
