Recap: Texas State vs. Nevada

San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - The Nevada Wolf Pack scored the game's final 21 points behind quarterback Cody Fajardo and held on to defeat the Texas State Bobcats at Bobcat Stadium, 34-21.

Fajardo threw for 286 yards, three touchdowns and an interception on 21-of-34 passing for Nevada (4-1). He also ran ten times for 95 yards and a score, while Stefphon Jefferson gained 178 yards on a career-high 40 carries. Jefferson has now rushed for 135 yards or more in all five games this season. Brandon Wimberly became the first Nevada receiver this season to rack up more than 100 yards in a game with his six-catch, 135-yard performance.

Bobcats (2-2) quarterback Shaun Rutherford was efficient in the loss, throwing for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-22 passing. 108 of those yards went to Andy Erickson, whose eight catches paced the Bobcats aerial attack.

The two teams traded blows in the first half. Texas State struck first on Marcus Curry's one-yard touchdown run, which was set up by Justin Iwuji's first career interception.

Nevada responded on their next possession, marching 75 yards on 10 plays and tying the score when Fajardo connected with Zach Sudfeld from nine yards out.

Nevada had six plays in the red zone on their next possession but were unable to punch it in.

Allen Hardison's 24-yard field goal gave Nevada a 10-7 lead. After Rutherford's first touchdown pass of the game, a two-yard catch by Tim Gray, Hardison drilled another from 41 yards.

Rutherford connected with Erickson for a 28-yard touchdown pass which was answered by a two-yard scoring strike from Fajardo to Sudfeld. The Bobcats held a 21-20 halftime lead.

After a terrific first half, things fell apart for the Bobcats in the third quarter. Rutherford completed just one pass in the quarter. Fajardo took advantage of his opponent's struggles, giving the Wolf Pack a 27-21 lead with a six-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. His 12-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Bradley later in the period was the final score of the game.

Nevada's offensive line deserves a lot of the credit for this victory. They created holes for Jefferson all game and didn't allow a single sack. Nevada also took advantage of their trips to the red zone, scoring points on all five red zone appearances, including four touchdowns.

Nevada improves to 3-0 on the road this season, while Texas State drops to 1-2 at Bobcat Stadium.
