Recap: New Mexico St vs. TX-San Antonio

Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Eric Soza threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns as the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio registered a 35-14 win over the New Mexico State Aggies in Western Athletic Conference action at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Soza converted 19-of-32 passes for the Roadrunners (5-0, 1-0 WAC) as they remained undefeated on the season and posted their first WAC victory. Soza also led the team in rushing with 55 yards and a score on eight attempts.

The Aggies (1-4, 0-1), losers of four straight since opening 2012 with a 49-19 win over Sacramento State, were led by Andrew Manley who connected on 21-of-40 for 276 yards and two TDs, but he was also sacked five times and had a pair of passes picked off. Austin Franklin tallied seven catches for a game-high 105 yards and one touchdown in the losing effort.

NMSU put the first points on the board as Manley combined with Trevor Walls on an eight-yard TD pass play at the 4:34 mark of the first quarter to give the hosts an early leads. Unfortunately for the Aggies, the offense dried up until the fourth quarter, allowing UTSA to move out to a commanding lead.

The Roadrunner attack began with a 48-yard TD strike from Soza to Evans Okotcha in the first period, followed by a 33-yard Soza TD run in the second and an 82-yard scoring toss from Soza to Kenny Bias with 6:33 remaining in the first half which made the score 21-7 at the break.

In the third quarter Soza struck yet again, this time with a 15-yard TD pass to Cole Hicks to build the UTSA lead to 28-7.

Needing to step up their efforts, the Aggies used just 26 seconds during their only other scoring drive of the night, culminating with a 41-yard touchdown pass between Manley and Franklin with 11:33 to play in the game.

The ensuing possession for the Roadrunners consumed 7:27 off the clock, measured 72 yards on 12 plays and was capped with a nine-yard TD run by Okotcha to provide the visitors with a convincing three-touchdown victory.

New Mexico State, which entered play this week as the 117th-ranked rushing offense in the nation with 90.5 ypg, finished with only 74 net yards on 33 attempts.
