Recap: Idaho vs. TX-San Antonio

Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Eric Soza threw for 232 yards and ran in three touchdowns as the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners defeated the Idaho Vandals, 34-27, in Western Athletic Conference action at the Kibbie Dome.

Soza completed 23-of-36 passes and rushed for a team-high 89 yards for the Roadrunners (7-4, 2-3 WAC), who assured themselves a winning season in their first FBS campaign. David Glasco II rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown, and 11 UTSA receivers caught passes from Soza, led by Kenny Harrison (four receptions, 25 yards).

For Idaho (1-10, 1-4), Taylor Davis went 18-of-29 for 223 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, while Mike Scott had a career-day receiving with 10 receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The Vandals have now lost five straight games.

The Roadrunners got out to a fast start in the first quarter. A nine-yard touchdown run from Soza and a 27-yard field goal off the foot on Sean Ianno gave UTSA a 10-0 lead. Idaho would add a 51-yard field goal by Trey Farquhar later in the quarter to cut into the deficit.

UTSA made it 17-3 midway through the second quarter on a Glasco II three- yard touchdown run. Another Sean Ianno field goal (24 yards) with under two minutes to play in the half extended the Roadrunners' lead.

After a stagnant first half, the Vandals came storming back in the third quarter. First, Davis connected on a 10-yard touchdown to Scott midway through the quarter, then he added another scoring strike to Najee Lovett later in the frame to bring Idaho to within three, 20-17.

The Vandals tied the game on a 22-yard field goal from Farquhar early in the fourth quarter, but Soza answered for UTSA by rushing in a one-yard score. The quarterback added another touchdown run (10 yards) just two minutes later to put his team back up two touchdowns.

Idaho would not go away quietly. With under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Davis and Scott hooked up on another touchdown strike, this time from 34 yards out, to make it a 34-27 game.

UTSA punted the ball back to Idaho with under four minutes to play, but Justin Veltung fumbled the return and it was picked up by the Roadrunners, who were able to run out the clock from there.

The Roadrunners converted 8-of-17 third down attempts in the game and they held a nearly nine minute advantage in time of possession.
