Recap: New Mexico St vs. San Jose St

Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Behind four touchdown passes from David Fales, the San Jose State Spartans cruised to an easy 47-7 win over New Mexico State in a Western Athletic Conference bout at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Fales completed 12-of-18 passes for 276 yards and an interception for the Spartans (8-2, 4-1 WAC), who have won four straight. Chandler Jones (five receptions, 101 yards) went over the century mark receiving for the second time this season and hauled in two touchdowns. De'Leon Eskridge gained 96 yards rushing and a touchdown on just six carries.

For NMSU (1-9, 0-5), Andrew Manley completed just 7-of-18 passes for 46 yards and two interceptions before he was spelled for Travaughn Colwell, who went 5- of-11 for 54 yards and a touchdown. Tiger Powell gained 51 yards rushing on eight carries for the Aggies, who have now lost nine in a row.

The Spartans got the scoring started midway through the first quarter on a 36- yard field goal off the foot of Austin Lopez. Just over a minute later, Eskridge ripped off a 63-yard touchdown run as San Jose State jumped out to a 10-0 lead.

San Jose State wasn't through with big plays in the opening quarter, as Fales connected on a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jones.

The Spartans lead ballooned to 30-0 midway through the second quarter following two more Fales touchdown passes. First, he hooked up with Jones for 14 yards, then he hit Ina Liaina on a 58-yard scoring strike less than five minutes later.

The San Jose State defense got into the scoring act later in the quarter after Manley lost a fumble and Bene Benwikere picked it up and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown, and it took a commanding 37-0 lead into halftime.

Fales did not slow down in the second half, as he tossed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Otten less than a minute into the third quarter for his fourth score of the game. The Spartans would add another Lopez field goal (38 yards) before the third quarter was out.

The Aggies avoided the shutout with a touchdown in the game's final minute when Colwell connected with Trevor Walls from nine yards out.

NMSU gained just 220 yards of offense on the afternoon, compared to 504 yards for San Jose State.
