Recap: San Jose St vs. Utah State

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Kerwynn Williams rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns as the Utah State Aggies took down the San Jose State Spartans, 49-27, in Western Athletic Conference action at Spartan Stadium.

Chuckie Keeton was also on point for Utah State (5-2, 1-0 WAC), completing 26- of-35 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 47 yards and a score. Matt Austin hauled in six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown for the Aggies.

For San Jose State (4-2, 0-1), David Fales completed 38-of-50 passes for a season-high 467 yards and three touchdowns. Noel Grigsby caught 11 passes for 181 yards, becoming the program's all-time receiving yardage leader in the process with 2,288. The Spartans had won four in a row prior to the loss.

The Spartans drove deep into Utah State territory on their first drive of the game but had to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Austin Lopez to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Aggies answered on their ensuing drive when Keeton hooked up with Chuck Jacobs for a 17-yard touchdown. Keeton added another touchdown pass later in the quarter, this time a five-yard strike to Austin, as Utah State went up, 14-3.

Utah State continued to add to their lead early in the second quarter when Williams ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run. Less than five minutes later the Aggies struck again, with Keeton connecting with Travis Van Leeuwen on a 21- yard touchdown pass to give them a commanding 28-3 lead.

San Jose State's first touchdown of the game came midway through the second quarter when Fales connected with Kyle Nunn for a three-yard touchdown pass. The Spartans added a 26-yard Lopez field goal later in the quarter to make it 28-13.

In the final two minutes of the first half, the Spartans put together a nine- play, 85-yard drive, which ended with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Fales to Grigsby to make it 28-20 in favor of Utah State.

The Aggies received the ball at the start of the second half and wasted no time adding to their lead as Williams ripped off an 86-yard run for a much needed touchdown to make it 35-20.

Four minutes later, Utah State gave itself another three-score lead when Keeton rushed in a 28-yard touchdown.

San Jose State added another Fales-to-Grigsby touchdown (four yards) late in the third quarter, but that would be its final score of the game. Williams ran in a 12-yard score late in the fourth to punctuate the win for Utah State.
