Recap: Colorado State vs. Fresno State

Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Derek Carr threw four touchdown passes as the Fresno State Bulldogs defeated the Colorado State Rams, 28-7, in Mountain West Conference action at Hughes Stadium.

Carr finished the night 25-of-39 for 217 yards for the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0 MWC) as they picked up their second straight win and the third in the last four outings. Running back Robbie Rouse carried the ball 26 times for 124 yards and also caught a game-high nine passes for another 50 yards. Davante Adams reeled in four passes for 41 yards and two scores.

Playing in place of an injured Garrett Grayson who suffered a shoulder injury against Air Force last week, M.J. McPeek connected on 15-of-29 passes for 192 yards and a score in his first-ever start. McPeek was also picked off once by Phillip Thomas who leads the nation in interceptions with seven through six games.

Since opening the season with a 22-17 win over Colorado in Denver, the Rams have fallen in five straight under first-year head coach Jim McElwain.

The Bulldogs scored the first 28 points of the night, registering single touchdowns in the first two quarters as Carr connected with Adams for a 10- yard TD in the first frame and then found Josh Harper with a 20-yard TD late in the second to give FSU a 14-0 edge at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Carr combined with Isaiah Burse on a 15- yard touchdown to cap a nine-play, 47-yard drive at the 14:14 mark of the final period. Later in the quarter Carr again marched his team down the field, this time on a 71-yard drive that used 12 plays and culminated with a five- yard TD toss to Adams.

Refusing to go away quietly, McPeek needed less than a minute to move the Rams 77 yards in the final moments, putting points on the board with a 12-yard TD pass to Charles Lovett.

Colorado State controlled the ball for just over 23 minutes on the night and finished with 249 yards of total offense.

With the victory the Bulldogs have matched their win total from all of last season when they finished just 4-9, dropping five of their final six bouts of the campaign under former head coach Pat Hill.
