Recap: New Mexico vs. Fresno State

Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Derek Carr threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns as he helped bring Fresno State back from a 21-point deficit in order to claim a 49-32 win over the New Mexico Lobos in Mountain West Conference play at University Stadium.

Carr completed 31-of-44 passes, was picked off once and sacked two times as the Bulldogs (6-3, 4-1 MWC) secured their second straight win and the fourth in the last five outings. Davante Adams caught nine passes for 198 yards and a couple of scores, while Robbie Rouse posted 120 yards and a touchdown on 18 rushing attempts.

The Lobos (4-5, 1-3) were paced by Kasey Carrier who registered a game-high 136 yards and landed in the end zone twice on 19 carries as the team suffered a second consecutive loss. Quarterbacks B.R. Holbrook and Quinton McCown combined to convert a mere 4-of-15 passes for 45 yards and a score.

Carrier posted rushing touchdowns of eight and 30 yards in the first and second quarters, respectively, while Joe Stoner returned an interception 40 yards for a score in between to give UNM a 21-0 lead with 13:32 left to play in the second frame.

Carr began the comeback midway through the second with a seven-yard TD pass to Victor Dean and added another seven-yard scoring strike to Adams later in the period to make the score 24-14 at the break. Justus Adams tallied a 26-yard field goal for the hosts between the two scores for the Bulldogs.

The second half belonged to Fresno State as the team ripped off 35 unanswered points, beginning with touchdown passes of 21 yards from Carr to Marcel Jensen and an 89-yard effort to Adams also to give the visitors a 28-24 advantage.

With 1:35 left in the third quarter Rouse finally crossed the goal line from one yards out. A three-yard TD run by Greg Watson and a one-yard effort by Michael Harris in the fourth moved the lead to 49-24.

McCown stepped in for Holbrook and hit Lamaar Thomas with a 19-yard TD pass with just 47 seconds left in regulation, and even with a successful two-point conversion the Lobos were left with the 17-point loss at home.

New Mexico, fifth in the nation in rushing with 296.9 ypg coming into the week, finished with 349 yards against the Bulldogs.
