Recap: Boise State vs. Colorado State

Boise, ID (Sports Network) - Joe Southwick passed for 216 yards and two touchdowns for the Boise State Broncos as they rolled over the Colorado State Rams, 42-14, in Mountain West Conference action at Bronco Stadium.

Southwick was extremely efficient for the Broncos (9-2, 6-1 MWC), completing 85 percent of his throws (17-of-20). D.J. Harper helped out his quarterback by rushing for 107 yards and two scores. Nine different Broncos' players caught at least one pass, with Kirby Moore leading the way with four catches for 36 yards.

Colorado State (3-8, 2-5) starting quarterback M.J. McPeek completed just 4- of-9 passes for 19 yards and was intercepted twice. He was replaced by Conner Smith in the second half. Smith had some success, throwing for 53 yards and a touchdown, but on just 4-of-11 passing. Chris Nwoke led the Rams' rushing attack with 119 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

The Rams were forced to punt on their opening possession, which led to the first points of the game, an 80-yard touchdown run by Harper on the Broncos' first play from scrimmage. Things only got worse for the Rams from that point on.

Harper added his second touchdown of the afternoon just minutes later, this time from two yards out.

Chris Potter carried just once in the first half, but it went for a 12-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Leading 21-0, the Broncos continued to pour it on, adding Southwick touchdown passes to Matt Miller and Holden Huff later in the second. They also played great defense, holding the Rams to just 52 total yards in the first half and 1-of-8 on third down attempts.

The scoring slowed down in the third quarter when Boise replaced Southwick with Grant Hedrick. Hedrick scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown early in the quarter, but that was the only Bronco touchdown scored in the second half.

Nwoke managed a 72-yard touchdown run later in the third to get CSU on the scoreboard, and Smith connected with Marquise Law for a 30-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring. The Rams went the entire game without running a play from the red zone.

Boise State has now defeated CSU in both all-time matchups between the squads.
