Recap: Colorado State vs. New Mexico

Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Connor Smith completed 19-of-26 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with under two minutes to play, as the Colorado State Rams closed out the season with a 24-20 win over the New Mexico Lobos in a Mountain West Conference tilt at Hughes Stadium.

Hauling in the go-ahead touchdown pass was Joe Hansley, who finished with five receptions for 102 yards and a pair of scores for CSU (4-8, 3-5 MWC). Donnell Alexander rushed the ball 24 times for 112 yards and a touchdown.

For New Mexico (4-9, 1-7), B.R. Holbrook went 12-of-21 passing for 205 yards and a touchdown, while Kasey Carrier rushed for 59 yards and a score.

The Rams turned their first drive into points after Smith hooked up with Hansley on a 29-yard scoring strike less than three minutes into the game. A few minutes later, Alexander rushed in a three-yard touchdown and CSU was up 14-0.

New Mexico cut its deficit in half late in the first quarter following a one- yard touchdown rush from Carrier.

In a quite second quarter, the only points came off the foot of Jared Roberts, who nailed a 48-yard field goal with 2:14 remaining in the half to give the Rams a 17-7 halftime lead.

The Lobos chipped away at the lead midway through the third quarter on a 38- yard field from Justus Adams.

Following another Adams field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter, this time from 30 yards out, New Mexico took its first lead of the game, 20-17, with under four minute to play in the game when Holbrook connected with Jhurell Pressley for a 55-yard touchdown.

CSU would respond on its final drive, as it regained the lead on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Hansley. Chris Nwoke kept the drive alive on 4th- and-2 near midfield when he converted on a six-yard rush.

New Mexico drove inside the Rams' 20-yard line in the final minute, but three Holbrook passes towards the end zone fell incomplete before time expired.

The Rams converted just 2-of-10 third down attempts, but they managed to make both of their fourth down tries.
