Recap: Miami-Ohio vs. Ball State

Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Jahwan Edwards ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns as the Ball State Cardinals held on for a 31-24 victory against the RedHawks of Miami-Ohio in a Mid-American Conference regular-season finale at Yager Stadium.

Edwards ran the ball 18 times for the Cardinals (9-3, 6-2 MAC) as the team generated 226 yards on 58 rushing attempts overall in posting their sixth straight win. Kelly Page converted 11-of-21 passes for 137 yards and a score as well for the visitors.

The RedHawks (4-8, 3-5) were paced by Zac Dysert who converted 26-of-40 passes for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also shaking off a couple of sacks in the team's fourth consecutive setback. Dawan Scott, who caught nine passes for 120 yards and a score, also carried the ball three times for 13 yards and another touchdown for the hosts.

BSU opened the day's scoring early in the first half when Edwards capped an eight-play, 47-yard drive with a five-yard TD run.

It took some time for the RedHawks to respond, waiting until there was 2:16 remaining in the opening frame, as Scott crossed the goal line from three yards out to knot the score at 7-7.

The Cardinals recorded the next two scores in order to take a 21-7 lead as Page hooked up with Jack Tomlinson on an 18-yard pass play and Edwards found the end zone on a two-yard run with 6:46 left in the first half.

Before intermission Dysert put together an efficient six-play drive that accounted for 73 yards in just over a minute, culminating with a 34-yard TD pass to Scott, leaving Miami down by seven at the break.

In the third quarter Ball State continued to pile on as Edwards slipped into the end zone on a 17-yard run, followed by a Steven Schott 27-yard field goal to boost the lead to 31-14.

With still more than a quarter to play, the RedHawks had plenty of time to plot their comeback and nearly pulled it off as Dysert hit Jamire Westbrook with a 10-yard TD strike and kicker Kaleb Patterson converted a 23-yard field goal, but that's how the game ended.

Ball State, which entered the week ranked second in the conference and 18th nationally in total offense with 481.2 ypg, finished with just 363 yards on 80 plays.
