Recap: Toledo vs. Bowling Green

Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Terrance Owens completed 20-of-28 passes for 303 yards and a touchdown as the Toledo Rockets captured the Battle of I-75 trophy with a 27-15 win over the Bowling Green Falcons at the Glass Bowl.

Alonzo Russell benefited the most from Owens' passing with six receptions for 152 yards and a score for Toledo (2-1, 1-0 MAC). David Fluellen scored a pair of touchdowns and racked up 81 yards on 21 rushing attempts.

Anthon Samuel carried the ball 16 times, gained 112 yards and scored a touchdown for Bowling Green (1-2, 0-1). Matt Schilz completed 24-of-36 pass attempts for 216 yards, but also threw an interception.

Toledo's first scoring strike of the contest came on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Owens to Russell that put the Rockets up 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

The Rockets increased the lead to 10-0 on a 27-yard field goal by Jeremiah Detmer early in the second quarter. The advantage grew even larger with Fluellen scoring on a one-yard touchdown run less than four minutes later.

Bowling Green got itself onto the scoreboard with a 32-yard field goal by Tyler Tate as time expired in the first half.

Toledo scored quickly out of the break with Fluellen's second rushing touchdown (22 yards) giving the Rockets a 24-3 lead just over a minute into the third quarter.

The Falcons finally managed to get into the end zone themselves on their next drive with Samuel crossing the goal line on a 23-yard run. Tate missed the ensuing extra point attempt however, leaving the score at 24-9.

Neither team would score again until the fourth quarter when John Pettigrew got into the end zone from two yards out for BGSU. Unfortunately, the Falcons were unable to cut it to a one-possession game as they failed on a two-point conversion attempt.

Detmer knocked through a 42-yard field goal to put Toledo ahead 27-15 after a 14-play drive that ate up 7:40 off the clock.

Toledo held a 452-351 edge in total yards and converted 7-of-14 third-down attempts while Bowling Green went just 4-of-13.
