Recap: Kent State vs. Western Mich

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Trayion Durham rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes to a 41-24 triumph over the Western Michigan Broncos in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Dix Stadium.

Spencer Keith threw for 193 yards, a touchdown, and an interception for Kent State (6-1, 4-0 MAC) on 17-of-31 passing. Dri Archer gained 62 yards on 10 carries and was also the Golden Flashes' leading receiver with 53 yards on four catches. KSU's defense came up big as it forced six total turnovers in the contest.Luke Batton led the way with 14 tackles and two fumble recoveries. The Golden Flashes extended their winning streak to five games with the victory.

Tyler Van Tubbergen struggled under center for WMU (3-5, 1-2) as it fell for the second straight week. The junior quarterback completed 30-of-57 attempts for 333 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions. Josh Schaeffer scored a touchdown and set a new-career highs with 151 yards and nine receptions.

The Golden Flashes jumped out to an early lead as Archer broke away and rushed 22 yards across the goal line.

WMU answered with a big play as Van Tubbergen completed an 81-yard touchdown strike to Josh Schaffer to even the score at 7-7.

KSU went back on top as Freddy Cortez booted a 46-yard field goal in the opening seconds of the second quarter. The Golden Flashes extended their lead when Durham rushed 19 yards for a touchdown at the 9:22 mark of the second frame.

The Broncos responded with a 16-play, 66-yard drive and Andrew Haldeman made it a one possession game by chipping in a 27-yard field goal. Kent State managed to stay on top and take a 17-10 lead into the intermission.

WMU carried their second quarter momentum through the break and scored the first two touchdowns of the second half. On its opening drive, WMU drove 67 yards on 10 plays to set up Antoin Scriven for a one-yard touchdown plunge. Scriven scored on another one-yard run with 5:19 left in the quarter to give the Broncos a 24-17 lead.

The Golden Flashes evened the score, 24-24, as Keith completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Josh Boyle just before the start of the final quarter.

Kent State then outscored WMU 17-0 in the fourth frame. Archer rushed it in from 10 yards out, Cortez made a 43-yard field goal, and Batton returned a fumble 83 yards to put KSU on top, 41-24.

Despite the loss, the Broncos gained 476 yards of total offense and limited KSU to 384 yards.
